Azulão Manganga

Sekhet Neb Amunwah, Azulão, is a native of Trinidad & Tobago. While studying in Miami, he gained an interest in gymnastics but soon began to find that classes were too expensive. Having a martial arts history and his interest in acrobatics, he soon found a capoeira school that offered everything he was interested in.

In 1994, he began training with Engenho Velho under Profesor João Neto. Upon returning to Trinidad in 1997, his love for cappoeira lead him to search for capoeira instructors. This was harder than he had anticipated as there were no recognised instructors in the country at the time. He therefore started to do demonstrations at martial arts tournaments and the popularity of capoeira started to grow.

Despite many disagreements and fights with other martial arts institutes, he soon had a few students who were drawn to the Afro-Brazilian Martial Art. He began teaching in Trinidad as a representative of his school in Miami.

Eventually, he found that his style wasn't advancing and began to look for a new school to train with. It is then that he consulted Chanzo 'Café' Greenidge. Café pointed him towards Mestre Barrão, whose school, Grupo Axé Capoeira, was the only one that Café knew was aggressive enough for Azulão. After several emails to Mestre, he was invited by Menino, the instructor for the school in St. Croix, to come to a workshop. From there, he was stripped of his instructor rank and was inducted into Grupo Axé Capoeira at azul (blue cord), the second rank in the grupo. He then started to study under Mestre Barrão and his students made the transition with him.

He currently conducts classes throughout the week and in locations around the whole county (both Trinidad AND Tobago) on behalf of Mestre Barrão and has a school consisting of approximately 60 students.
